World Book Day 2017 - Library Competitions

World Book Day is a day set aside each year to celebrate reading, books, authors and illustrators. This year it takes place on Thursday 2nd March.

World Book Day at TRS is going to be bigger and better than ever!  We'll be dropping everything and reading, there'll be staff dressing up, Library Lessons and COMPETITIONS, with lots of prizes to be won!

On Monday, 27th February, our ‘Match the Teacher to the book’ competition launches.

To enter, simply pick up an entry form from the Discovery Library and link the person with the book you think they are reading.

You can ask them for clues!

We are also looking for some brilliant book reviews to post on the Library Blog - ask one of your Librarians for a template.  Don’t forget our regular Word of the Week competition!

Form Tutors will be giving out special World Book Day tokens to each pupil, with the exception of the Post 16 students who can collect one from the War Memorial Library on request. These vouchers can either be exchanged at your local book shop for one of the World Book Day books or they can be used to get £1 off any book costing £2.99 or more. You can use your voucher in any participating books shop from 27th Feb - 26th March 2017.

The books on this year’s Waterstones Children's Book prize shortlist have been described by Waterstones as “guiding light of optimism in the face of uncertain times”, with many of the novels seeking to reassure older readers and allow discussion of difficult issues with younger readers.

There are three categories, illustrated books, younger fiction and older fiction and the overall winner of the prize will be announced on 30th March.

You will find some of the titles on the shortlist in the Discovery and War Memorial Libraries, including Time Travelling with a Hamster by Ross Welford.
