Remembrance 2025

Lest we forget.

Throughout November, the War Memorial Library is marking Remembrance with a display of books that reflect on the First and Second World Wars, stories of courage, loss, resilience, and hope.

The display brings together both fiction and non-fiction titles that explore the many ways war has shaped lives and memories. Each book offers a chance to pause and reflect on the experiences of those who served and those who waited at home.

As always, the Library stands in constant recognition of the lives lost at war. Our memorial within the building is a quiet reminder of the individuals whose names we honour and remember.

If you visit this month, please take a moment to view the display and the memorial, and join us in remembrance.

“At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them.”

Black History Month 2025

October is Black History Month, a time to recognise and celebrate the stories, creativity, and achievements of Black people past and present.

Our library display this month showcases a diverse range of books by Black authors and about Black history, identity, and culture. From inspiring biographies like The Life of Stephen Lawrence to powerful fiction such as The Haunting of Tyrese Walker and Black and British. These stories invite readers to explore new perspectives, reflect on history, and celebrate voices that continue to shape our world today.

These books are available in the library all year round, but we’re especially proud to spotlight them this month. We recognise that our collection is still growing in its representation, and we’re always researching new stories to include, so if you have any recommendations, we’d love to hear them.
