Competition! Design A Poster for the Discovery Library

We are running a competition to design a new ‘this way’ sign for the Discovery Library, to replace the existing bookworm poster.  Students are invited to submit their designs on an A4 sheet. 

The winning entry will be reproduced and displayed to direct users to the Discovery Library.  The closing date is 11th February and all entries should be handed into the Librarians.

500 Words 2016

The ever popular BBC Radio 2 500 words story writing competition is back for the sixth year.  It is open to anyone aged 13 or under.  To enter you simply need to write a fictional short story of no more than 500 words and submit your story online.

The competition closes for entries at 7pm on Thurdsay, 25th February.  Prizes include Chris Evan’s height in books plus the top 50 entrants will receive tickets to the final.  Why not give it a go?  To enter and for inspiration, hints and tips visit the 500 words website.

TRS Big Draw 2015 - Shortlisted Winners and Winners

The whole school took part in The Big Draw International Drawing festival last term, organised by the Art Department.  The theme was "Every Drawing Tells A Story". Each student was asked to create a bookmark based upon a descriptive extract from a book selected by the Librarians.  It was a wonderful opportunity to get creative and have fun whatever your artistic ability!



The short-listed winners and winners were chosen in collaboration with the Library and are now on display outside the Discovery Library.  Come and have a look!

Take A Risk Christmas - Prize Draw Winners!

More students than ever took a risk and borrowed a ‘take a risk’ book at the end of last term! 220 students borrowed a book, 179 questionnaires were successfully completed and 58 spot prize were given out. All entries were then put forward for the free prize draw.

Blue Peter Book Awards 2016 - short list announced

The Blue Peter Book Awards, in association with The Book Trust, celebrate children's books and recognise the best authors and illustrators.  Started in 2000, the Awards are given to best story and best book with facts.

Short-listed for best story are:
  • The Astounding Broccoli Boy by Frank Cottrell Boyce 
  • The Boy Who Sailed the Ocean in an Armchair by Lara Williamson
  • The Nowhere Emporium by Ross MacKenzie


Best book with facts:
  • The Silly Book of Weird and Wacky Words by Andy Seed and Scott Garrett 
  • Factfeed by Penny Arlon
  • The Epic Book of Epicness written and illustrated by Adam Frost. 
The winners will be voted for by 200 school children from 10 schools and announced on Blue Peter on World Book Day on 3rd March.
