Ursula Le Guin, acclaimed American
Science Fiction writer, died this week at the age of 88. She has influenced
writers such as Margaret Attwood and Neil Gaiman, and wrote about a boy wizard
who goes to a school for wizards long before J K Rowling’s Harry Potter series. A new
copy of Ursula K. Le Guin’s Earthsea saga, including A Wizard of Earthsea, is available to borrow from the Discovery
Library.
Other author anniversaries include Scottish Poet Robert Burns born 25th January 1759 and one of the most
important modernist authors Virginia Woolf born 25th January
1882. You will find poetry by Robert
Burns and novels by Virginia Woolf including Mrs Dalloway, To The
Lighthouse and Orlando in the War
